1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are several connector pins, and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is operational, it should read around 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, when i was accelerating to the fullest speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and is running fine when it is plugged in, but still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, i feel i have pretty much ruled out everything else. But i'm worried that i might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or at a parts store.
