Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and a growing global demand.

Our service is able to offer private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your situation. This will happen at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your clinician will discuss the various medication options available. If you decide to start taking medication, we can help you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process may take a few weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child's medication until the right balance has been achieved. It's not uncommon to have to titrate as high as three different medicines until you discover the one that best suits your child's ADHD. It is crucial that parents are involved in the titration and be aware of their child's behavior, so they can inform the doctor whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You must attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call, although in certain cases it may be possible to schedule an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration program. We also recommend that you check whether your GP accepts a "Shared-Care Agreement which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic you will be referred back to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who want a private diagnosis of ADHD, medication is a key element of their treatment. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients on to specialist services.

If you are referred through this route, your chosen clinician will examine you and decide whether or not you're required to be monitored for a dose of medication.
