Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spots.

Frame made of sturdy material

Figures have just been released showing that the three-wheeled vehicle - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is in a decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers that are able to handle a wider range of terrain, while also looking swanky and being easy to push.

The bigger the wheels are, the more your buggy will be able to deal with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear enable you to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and a 3 wheel pushchair sale year old and found it was able to withstand cobbles, grass, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. The tyres, which are inflated and require to be pumped up regularly they have suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my children.

The size and shape of the seat is another thing to consider. You will want it to be big enough for your child's comfort and you will also require it to recline so that they can lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer a lie-flat option that allows the child to face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is suitable for a single child as early as birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4 and includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a large padded seat. The storage options are great as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets on the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - perfect for buggies that are off-road. They also help you navigate the pushchair through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at the speed at which they can be pushed. This is also useful if you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel will be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air filled tyres which means they are able to handle different terrains and are much more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures and you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump handy.

Some of our favourite lightweight 3 wheel buggy-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension that Kath says "smooths out bumps very effectively".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make buggies quite large and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to use it as a jogger, or need to fit through narrow doorways while on the move. Fortunately, the majority of models come with compact folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with children. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels turn on a dime and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre and are ideal for difficult terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a cheap 3 wheel buggy wheeler with her toddler and newborn and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only downside to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you should keep in mind when your home is a city. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeler might be a better option for you.
