In response to the recommendation that was made, the Home Treatment Team performed a comprehensive evaluation on Miss Kelly's current health and mental state. The evaluation included a thorough medical history and physical exam. The review also included a comprehensive psychological assessment, a family therapy assessment and a psychiatric diagnosis interview.

According to the report, Miss Kelly was suffering from a variety of mental health issues, such as bipolar disorder, bulimia, and anorexia. She was also abused by her husband and was an addict to drugs. Her symptoms were worsened by anxiety, stress and depression. She was also diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and schizophrenia-related disorder.

Elayaperumal claims Medtronic has discriminated against him due to his race or national origin. He claims that his poor performance review in June of 2000 and the denial to give him certain projects assignments were motivated by racism. Medtronic has not provided any evidence that its decisions were based upon these elements. Elayaperumal’s lower performance rating did not cause any reduction in his salary or benefits.
